Summary: An information and networking event designed to bring innovative individuals and small businesses together with people who may be able to fund them. Aimed at those firms who have significant growth potential, but are pre-venture capital fund stage.
Seminar Programme
12.00pm Introduction to the Seminar – Andrew Turner, MP for the Isle of Wight.
Presentations –
12.10pm Kim Buckland – co-founded Liz Earle cosmetics, a successful Isle of Wight based company. She will discuss her experience of starting up a business, offering advice on the pitfalls you might face.
12.25pm IWEP – this is the Economic Partnership for the Isle of Wight, with expertise in networking, technology transfer and routes to funding for research and technology.
12.40pm SION – The Solent Investment Opportunity Network is part of one of the largest and most successful sources of Business Angel capital in the UK. It has a network of Private Investors stretching across the Solent Region and has helped a number of firms in the region raise seed funding of £50K to £250K.
12.55pm NESTA (the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) – a public fund that helps to fill funding gaps by investing in brilliant ideas and the people who have them at the early stages of development.
1.10pm Q&A – opportunity to ask questions of any of the panel.
1.20pm-ish Networking, individual discussions, and lunch
A chance to talk to the speakers on a one-to-one basis, and meet other people in Somerset involved in enterprise and innovation. Our seminars attract a wide range of small business people, artists, scientists and people with funding to distribute, so we hope you will find it a valuable opportunity to make contacts.
