30th September 2003 - SION Business Angels event 29th September - Report
Our last event in July has resulted in two firms raising significant funding from our private investors. One of these firms has in addition attracted a substantial investment from a Venture Capital fund. A press release will appear in the press office section of the site when the embargo is lifted.
Six firms presented from different sectors, investor syndicates are in detailed discussion with most firms.
Pharma £300k
A novel system for controlling antibiotic-resistant "superbugs" using natural agents. The treatment has successfully completed its first clinical trial. This firm was successful in raising funds at the SION May event.
Educational Software £500k
An established provider of educational software products. Its products are in use in over 7% of UK primary schools and it has recently concluded a licensing agreement with British Telecom that will provide a platform for the consumer market. Having successfully raised over £1m from institutional and private investors (including £350k from the founders) it is now seeking a further £500k to further develop its core brands and to continue penetration of the educational and consumer markets.
Equestrian Security £300k
A system based on long established RFID technology to deter theft of Horse Saddles and related equipment. This has the backing of a leading trade association who is strongly endorsing the database. The product is in the market.
Images on the web to compliment classified adverts £200K
In 10 minutes non-technical staff can upload 30 digital images for viewing online in a customisable slideshow viewer, enabling internet shoppers to make immediate buying decisions. Product complete, customers on board.
Text Messaging solution £250k
Sales system for Estate Agents, automatic matching of a customer's needs to products and services offered and delivery of a personalised text message to his/her mobile phone of matches found. Already in use and generating revenues.
Satellite Antenna Business £500K (Late entry)
Acquisition of an existing firm by its previous management that designs and manufactures large satellite earth station antennas. It has an established trading record.
